My journey into Mindfulness

My journey into Mindfulness began at 19 when I picked up a book called “The Calm Technique”. After reading this book and other’s on mental health issues I felt there had to be a link between calming the mind trough meditation and good mental and Emotional health. Fortunately my discovery of Yoga reinforced this. After completing my Diploma in Yoga in 2006 I became interested in how our internal energy can affect the way we feel. This led me to complete my level one and two Reiki training in 2007.

In 2009 I began my Mindfulness at Samye-Ling in Scotland. The course really interested me as it was psychological approach to Meditation originally designed in America by Scientist Jon Kabat-Zinn (Author of The Mindful way through Depression) I completed my years training in 2009 with a week’s retreat at Holy Island Scotland. The following year I returned and completed the Wisdom and Compassion Module to further enhance my understanding of Mindfulness and how I could incorporate this into my practice. This completely changed my attitude towards meditation. I could see with simple mindful strategies we could begin to change our attitudes towards stress, anxiety and depression. My journey seemed to be drawing me towards teaching students not only the physical aspect of yoga but how to balance their mental and emotional state.

Regular daily practice of Mindfulness Meditation develops our ability to pay attention to our immediate experience. Instead of finding ourselves at the mercy of emotional states. We grow in our ability to choose how we want to act in situations, often in ways that might have been out of our reach before. Through these actions we can interact with ourselves and others in a healthier and more profound way.
