Welcome to West Coast Yoga Studio, Cumbria

Hi my name is Julie Palmer owner of West Coast Yoga Studio Whitehaven.
I offer Yoga, Mindfulness and Body Balance (yoga/Pilates mix) and a variety of Spiritual practices to help you relax and unwind.

My Personal journey – My journey began at the age of 19 after a giving birth to my daughter Holly. It was a very difficult time for me and I was eventually diagnosed with Post-Natal depression. Initially I was given medication but after a while I felt drawn towards a more natural way of looking after my health and well being. I started to look into meditation and how it could be used to stabilise the mind and emotions. So began my path of self-discovery!

A few years later after a serious back injury left me in chronic pain I attended my first Yoga class and so my Yoga journey began. Immediately I saw the connection between a healthy body and a healthy mind. This led me to train in body massage and human physiology completing my Diplomas with the Institute of Health and Holistic Therapists in 2001.

During the early days I practised with a number of different teachers including a local teacher Kay Weighman who was a huge inspiration to me. After a few years of dedicated practice Kay encouraged me to apply for my teacher training with the British Wheel of Yoga (The UK governing body of Yoga). I began my training in 2003 in Alnwick Scotland and completed my Yoga Diploma in 2006. Every years since then i have updated my skills with further training to keep my teaching current and fresh.

During the first few years of teaching I taught in a number of venues across Cumbria building up a loyal clientele. This led me to open my own centre in 2013 where I could provide a holistic space which would be solely dedicated to my students.

Using the experiences I have gained from both my personal and professional practice I decided the best way to teach is in small intimate groups where I can dedicate my time to ensure that each student receives the personalised instruction they require to enhance their practice. I feel this is key to my teaching method.
